France says “yes” to gay marriage: what country will be next?

A few hours ago the French Parliament passed the law authorizing civil marriage for same-sex couples, with 331 votes in favor and 225 against. France is now the 14th country that recognizes gay marriage.

“It’s a historical moment” was the comment of the Minister of Justice, Christiane Taubira, who had previously mentioned that the first gay marriages could start being celebrated as early as June 2013.

The right-wing opposition has already announced an appeal to the Constitutional Council before the promulgation of the law by President François Hollande.
