DHAKA – An eight-story building that housed a number of workshops for production of clothes and a shopping center on the outskirts of Dhaka, collapsed, killing over 70 people and injuring over 500. This was reported by the government’s health Secretary, M. M. Niazuddin.
As far as reported by the official, the factory owners would ignore the warning not to enter the building after the workers had been identified cracks the day before.
The booming textile sector in Bangladesh has for years been hit by accidents and tragedy. Last November 2012, 112 people died in a fire in a factory in a suburb of Dhaka.
